Since 1971, MEF has been fostering friendship between Australia and Japan by inviting eight Australian university students on a three-week study tour across Japan. The Melbourne and Perth offices stepped up to participate in the national Clean Up Australia Day. Melbourne Office Embarks on Royal Park Clean-Up On the morning of February 27th, the Melbourne office gathered a group of 31 staff members, including Mitsui Australia's CEO, Mr. Sugahara, to embark on a clean-up mission at Royal Park, Melbourne. Mitsui Australia's involvement in Clean Up Australia Day is rooted in our core values of sustainability and community engagement. Perth Office Stepping Up to Unite  On Tuesday 27th of February, the Mitsui Perth office was joined by a variety of staff to participate in the nation-wide Business Clean Up Australia Day. Taking advantage of an unseasonably mild summer day, the dedicated group headed to the streets of the Perth CBD to tackle the waste challenges of our everyday environment and protect the local environment. The event included cleaning up at Wellington Square, a large park in East Perth (pictured). General Manager of the Perth Office, Tack Nakao said it is “important for us to contribute to a greener, cleaner future for the next generation”. This initiative saw staff members from both locations dedicating their time to clean up local areas, reinforcing Mitsui's commitment to fostering a greener future. #cleanupaustraliaday #mitsui

8 students from Curtin University, University of South Australia, QUT (Queensland University of Technology), University of Wollongong, Macquarie University, University of Sydney, Monash University and La Trobe University, have recently returned safely from a 3-week Study Tour of Japan, sponsored by Mitsui Educational Foundation (MEF). Despite a rough start with a 6-hour flight delay, the young spirits enthusiastically completed a jam-packed, comprehensive and inspiring itinerary, leaving them with many fond memories with the culture, history, business, and the people who they are exposed to throughout the program. Each participant is currently working on a program report to finalise their journey, prior to the delivery of presentation to the MEF Trustees, government officials and Mitsui's senior management in early 2024. We look forward to witnessing how the experience benefitted each member of the MEF 2023 cohort, and welcoming them to join our long-standing alumni network with participants from over 50 years.

Throughout the month of August, the alumni, partner universities, government officials and other important people to Mitsui have again got together at our annual reunion events of the Mitsui Educational Foundation (MEF) and New Colombo Plan Mitsui Immersion Program (NCP). The series of this year's reunions kicked off in Perth, followed by Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and had a finale in Melbourne. Over 120 guests enjoyed their catch up with both familiar and new faces over some delicious Japanese food, which brought back the memory of their time in Japan while on the programs. Annual MEF/NCP alumni reunion is such a valuable opportunity for us to witness how our alumni are traveling in their different stages of life after the MEF/NCP program, and also to pass our gratitudes to the partner universities and other strong supporters of the two programs. We are blessed with the generous and ongoing support from so many people, and we look forward to maintaining positive relationships all of them for many years to come. See you at the next reunion, everyone!
