Introduction

Understanding the goals, practices, and challenges of history teacher education in individual countries is essential before discussing history teacher education that contributes to historical reconciliation in East Asia. The 2023 East Asia Social Studies Symposium (EASSS) aims to answer the following questions with cases of Korea, Japan, and Taiwan:


1. How do secondary history teacher educators like to prepare their pre-service history teachers?

2. What challenges do secondary history teacher educators encounter in preparing secondary pre-service history teachers in each country?
