Location

the world largest Torii gate by Oyunohara

The Heart of KUMANO

All of the pilgrimage routes gravitate to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, one of the three grand shrines of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Villa KUMANO is lacated very close to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, very convenient for pilgrims.
Kumano Hongu Heritage Center

Rural,
but Still Relatively Convenient

Kumano Hongu Heritage Center, a café, and a couple of souvenir shops with local goods are within walking distance.  A post office with an ATM, a bank that can exchange some international currency, and a hardware store are located nearby. There are also a handful of restaurants in a neighborhood.

Yunomine Onsen

Unique ONSEN

You can access unique hot springs within approximately 15 minutes by bus from Villa KUMANO. Yunomine Onsen was discovered about 1,800 years ago, and pilgrims performed hot water purification rituals in these piping-hot mineral waters after their long journey in preparation to worship at Kumano Hongu Taisha. Kawayu Onsen is a geological thermal wonder located on the river. Hot spring water bubbles to the surface of the crystal clear river.

Reviews

  • Delicious breakfast delivered on time by the coffee shop. Beautifull view to the shrine from the house. Very close to bus station and temple complex Everything present, good bedroom and kitchen, washing machine works well. Nice bathroom. Refigerator full of free drinks, wine, beer and soft drinks and water. Special Japanes feeling. Could not be better. Nice onsen in the neighborhood
  • A wonderful stay in Hongu. The property is in a great location with a view of the Torii Gate. Amy was very helpful with information on getting into the house our luggage transfer. The breakfast each morning was fantastic at Sebu Sei. We opted to have breakfast in the cafe and that worked out perfect. Overall a great stay right on the busline, so pretty east to get around to the hikes.
  • Amy left us a lovely bottle of umeshu for our honeymoon, which we really enjoyed. She let us leave our stuff there before check-in time too, which was very helpful. You can see the massive torii gate from the window - very cool! Home was spacious, comfortable, luxurious, with use of washing machine and kitchen included. Did I say luxurious? Well it's worth saying again! Meal quality was amazing - really enjoyed the dinner especially. Excellent location - short walk to Hongu Taisha, the trail to yunomine, bus station, place where you can make your own washi paper (which we really recommend!), bakeryPacked lunch would have really helped.
